THANK YOU
It was the Oneida custom to give thanks in the spring when
they finished making maple sugar and syrup. They gave thanks
when it was planting time, when the strawberries and corn
became ripe, and most of all, when harvest was done. The
biggest ceremony was New Year’s or Dawn of Light. People
gave thanks for whatever they were thankful for. Feasting and
the burning of tobacco in a white basket are part of the
ceremony today.
