The American Indian Art world

was saddened by the loss of

three of the very best.

Jacob Koopee

(Hopi/Tewa

potter) was the great-grandson

of Nampeyo, and one of Hopi’s

top contemporary potters.

Dorothy Torivio

(Acoma pot-

ter) was renowned for her black

and white polychrome pieces

and her free-hand fine-line

work that was created with

computer-like precision.

Peter Gaspar

(Zuni Fetish

carver). Peter and wife Dinah

were the first to include the

inlayed heartline into their

work.

Each of these artists pioneered

and stretched the boundaries of

American Indian art in very

special ways. While their work

may be imitated, it never will

be replaced.
