Isleta Pueblo artist Caroline

Carpio was named the 2012

Artist of the Year, by the Indian

Arts and Crafts Association, for

the vessel entitled

Rain Rain-

bow.

The inspiration for

Rain Rain-

bow

came from her renowned

River of Life

series which she

produced in both clay and

bronze.

Caroline tells us, “

The turquoise

stone beads that are inlaid represent

the flowing river. The lid is the

shape of the cloud, and it has a

single strand of turquoise and gold

beads inlaid depicting the rainbow

over an open arch.”

“The Southwest is a dry climate,

and the majority of the time the

Pueblo people are inclined to pray

for rain to nourish and sustain our

way of life, and therefore water

designs are often depicted in my

work, as it is in

Rain Rainbow

.”

Caroline is a graduate of the

Institute of American Indian

Arts and the University of New

Mexico, and a featured River

Trading Post artist.

Rain Rainbow

is now be avail-

able at River Trading Post,

Santa Fe.

Visitors to River Trading Post,

Santa Fe will have the opportu-

nity to enjoy this stunning

work, and to visit with Caroline

at the gallery on Thursday,

August 16 at our annual

Arts of

Native American Show and Sale.
