Edward S. Curtis (1868-1952) created approximately 2,200 extraordinary photographs of Native America in the largest undertaking ever of its kind.  The result was a massive 20-volume encyclopedia entitled The North American Indian that was published by the University Press of Cambridge, Massachusetts.  Each volume was accompanied by a separate image portfolio.  Only 272 copies of the work were sold, at a price of $3,000 each.

River Trading Post has assembled a collection of images from the various volumes, as well as a very limited number of the beautiful, large portfolio images.

Each original volume image is printed on the finest paper of the day, most on a Dutch etching stock by Van Gelder.  Each 5-1/2" x 7-1/2" image is printed on 9-1/2" x 12-1/2" stock.

Each of the portfolio images was printed by Suffolk Engraving Co., Cambridge, Massachusetts on nacreous paper.

An Edward S. Curtis photogravure makes an outstanding addition to any fine collection of Native American art and artifacts.
