American Indians of the Southwest
Past, Present and Future: A Story of Survivance*

* "Survivance is more than survival.  Survivance means redefining ourselves. It means raising our social and politicl consciousness.  It means building on to ancient principles while eagerly embracing change.  It means doing what is necessary to keep the culture alive."  Gerald Vizenor, Anishinaabe scholar.

River Trading Post is proud to host a series of four classes conducted by Heard Museum Master docent, Barbara Johnson, on Saturdays beginning October 29, 2011.  The classes will explore the Peoples of the Sonoran Desert, Mogollon Rim Country and the Colorado Plateu, from prehistoric times through today and into the future.

Barbara is well known throughout Arizona for her sensitive presentations of the art and cultures of American Indian Peoples, whose ancestors have inhabited the Southwest for thousands of years.  She has been a docent and lecturer for the Heard Museum for many years as well as a docent at the Desert Botanical Gardens.
